10:15am – 11:45am   Workshops

1 - "Grace Respite Ministry." This session will cover how this afterschool program for children with special needs began, how volunteers are involved, what the program includes and offer ideas and inspiration for congregations that want to attract and serve families whose children have special needs. Presenters: Peggy Wheeler-Cribb, Founder and Coordinator, Grace Respite Ministry, First Baptist Church, Georgetown, SC., Teressa Harrington, Coordinator and volunteer with Grace Respite Ministry; and Laura Florio, staff member

2 - "Alzheimer’s Services of Greater Beaufort." This workshop will describe the journey from an all volunteer organization to a non-profit, where funds were secured, how volunteers are involved, how risks are managed, and provide ideas and inspiration for all who want to serve families caring for loved ones with dementia.  Presenters: Arlene Hull, Director and Pat Strader, Program Director

3 - "The Heart of the Caregiver." The Heart of the Caregiver is a small group, Christian Bible study that can transform lives and the way we care for those with disabilities, chronic illnesses, or struggling with aging issues. This workshop may help those who have offered respite to family caregivers clearly in need of a break and wider support, only to have them say "No." Workbooks will be available for $15. Presenter: Mary Tutterow

1 - "Volunteers: A Valuable Resource." A valuable resource for any community service program, volunteers must be nurtured and well-managed. This session will offer effective tips to programs just starting volunteer management programs and useful reminders for those already working with volunteers. Presenter: Sally Burnett, Community Volunteer Coordinator, Trident United Way’s 2-1-1

2 - "The Heart of the Caregiver." (a repeat offering of the morning workshop)

3 - "Funding Your Respite Program." This informational session on grants and funding will offer ideas to begin educational and respite programs for people with dementia and develop respite options to serve families caring for loved ones with disabilities or other special needs.  Presenters: Anne Wolf, Manager, Alzheimer’s Resource Coordination Center, SC Lieutenant Governor’s Office on Aging; Susan M. Robinson, LMSW, Executive Director, S.C. Respite Coalition; and Anne McLean, Director of Advocacy and Adult Supports for the SC Department of Disabilities and Special Needs
